Deck of Portals

A lesser scholar might mistake a deck of portals for a replica of the twenty-two card deck that caused the Disastrous Draw. Each of the cards depicts one of the arcana of that notorious deck, but the art is more stylized and the composition distinctly different. Unlike the original, the deck of portals is not unique — though it requires the power of a Trump to power its creation. Reputedly, Alsvedun the Magnificent, Queen Noryevna, Illyira the Incandescent and Vilich Valyask Vozmei have all crafted such decks for the use of their favored — or perhaps more expendable — agents.

Each card in a deck of portals can be used once. When activated, the card opens a magical portal to a location somewhere within the domain of the Trump it represents. Once the portal has closed, the card’s image fades and it loses its magic. The owner of such a deck could travel from one end of Lokva to the other in seconds — but not accurately. The owner can choose which card to invoke, but not where the portal will lead. A portal to the Ruin’s domain might open onto the site of a border skirmish, an occupied or sacked town, a building in fallen Trakengrav, or even in the lair of Vilich Valyask Vozmei herself. Thus, a deck of portals is crafted specifically for those agents who have a chance at adapting to whatever situation they find themselves in. deck_deck.png
